Core Networking and Systems Lab (CoNS) is a newly created research group affiliated with CReWMaN. We are interested in both fundamental and practical design aspects of the Internet. Our research focuses on tackling complexity and scalability challenges at both network and system level.

At the network level, we develop theoretical underpinnings for the development of scalable, distributed traffic control protocols. We are also exploiting the possibility of applying phase transition theories from quantum statistic mechanics in physics to the analysis of the network robustness against failures and attacks.

At the system level, we address critical data plane design challenges in a router including fast packet classification and fast performance testing of data path functions to router components mapping. We also look into the details of large scale traffic analysis and profiling, operating system overheads that affect network throughput and system architectural issues.

Some of the Projects that we are actively working on include:

Specific information about projects not enlisted in the website can be queried by sending an email to Dr. Hao Che. che[@]cse[.]uta[.]edu. Remove the parenthesis before sending your email.

Our projects benefit from active industrial collaboration and we provide consulting services in networking and systems design. If you have problems in these areas, we might be able to help you. Details are available from Dr. Hao Che.

CoNS is headed by Dr. Hao Che. Our current team members include Dr. Hao Che, Prof. Kalyan Basu, Dr. Sajal Das, Dr. Gergely Zaruba, Amin Mazloom, Preetam Ghosh, Sourav Pal,  Sumantra Kundu.

Dr. Che was an assistant professor of Electrical Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) from 1998 to 2001 and a system architect with Santera Systems Inc. from 2000 to 2002.

Prof. Basu was the director of Wireless Systems Engineering Research for BNR (Bell Northern Research) and  Nortel Networks. He has over 20 years of industrial experience in wireless systems design, planning, implementation and network systems, in general.

Dr. Das has over 18 years of academic experience in parallel, distributed and grid computing, wireless mobile and sensor networks, pervasive and smart computing, applied graph theory and algorithms.

Dr. Zaruba is an active researcher in wireless networking technologies, network simulation and testbed architectures.
